10 Travel Hacks for Female Travelers

The easiest way to make a new friend on the road is to share a travel hack. Offered tips, tricks, and tidbits of advice are the quickest way to a traveling girl’s heart because it proves that you’re a like-minded woman with wanderlust.

Biker GirlThink of travel hacks as the delectable items of a buffet; you can pick and choose the ones you want to keep and the ones you’d rather live without. Some of these travel hacks will definitely become your staples (much like mac n cheese is one my staple must-eats at a buffet; yum!).

So, here they are, ladies, [bctt tweet=”the top ten travel hacks every girl should know”] – and since I’m sharing them with you that automatically makes us best friends now. Yay!

1. Wrap your shoes in disposable shower caps

Need to pack a strong arsenal of footwear, but don’t want to ruin all of your clothes with those soles that have been all over the world? Shower caps are the easiest and cheapest way to cover up those globetrotting soles.

2. Keep your bobby pins in tic tac containers

If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent bazillions of dollars on bobby pins every time you go to Target but can never seem to find them when you need them.

And, of course, when you don’t need them they turn up everywhere: the bottom of your purse, under your bed, and in your dog’s fur. Save up your tic tac boxes and store pins in them for inexpensive and convenient storage.

3. Use a potholder to pack your straightener

Seriously, you’re going to love me for this one. You can roll up and pack your straightener even after you’ve just finished using it and it’s still warm! Just slip it into a cute potholder or oven mitten.

4. Small jewelry can be stored in pillboxes

Never lose an earring or ring again with easy to find pillboxes! Go a step further and plan your jewelry and pack it by the day.

5. Add a cotton round or ball in powdered makeup to keep it from breaking

This one is another godsend for girly girls who love to travel. Just add a cotton round or cotton pad into your pressed powder or eye shadows to keep them firmly pressed. It’ll prevent them from breaking while you’re in transit.

6. Slip a few dryer sheets in your luggage to keep it smelling fresh

I’m not accusing you of having smelly luggage. All I’m saying is it’s nearly impossible to properly clean out a suitcase aside from spraying out an entire can of Febreeze and having a good airing out session.

If you haven’t had time to do that (and no one would blame you because you’ve got places to see and people to meet), then slip a few sweet smelling dryer sheets in between your clothes as you’re packing. Because, seriously. Shampooing out a suitcase? Ain’t nobody got time for dat.

7. Roll your clothes instead of folding to save space and reduce wrinkles

Everyone claims this is one of the best travel hacks ever, and I didn’t believe it was actually beneficial until I gave it a shot myself. Wow, did I feel like a dummy for ignoring this tip for so long.

8. Hang your dress in the restroom when you shower

Getting ready for an evening out but can’t find an iron in your hostel to smooth out your sexy LBD? As you enjoy your steamy shower before getting all dolled up, hang your dress in the bathroom with you.

The steam from the shower will loosen up any wrinkles created from being folded (or rolled) in your suitcase.

9. Keep a copy of your passport online

The number of times I’ve had to use the online copy of my passport for something while traveling is insane. I can’t even really remember the number.

Save it somewhere like an email to yourself or a password-protected Google doc. You’ll be so thankful you did this if you ever find yourself in an emergency.

10. Slip fragile items in socks

Never leave your bottle of Daisy by Marc Jacobs (or which ever pretty poison you prefer) behind when you head out on trips. Just slip small glassware into your socks for an easy and space-saving way to protect them!
