It’s Chinese New Year time which means everyone is hopping on a plane and going to Thailand or the Philippines for some sun and fun! Next week, everyone will be back at work again and although the sun might not be out, it doesn’t mean the fun has to stop!

So come on down to a great little spot in the heart of Taipei for an inexpensive, fun gathering and meet some of the great new teachers that have just arrived in Taipei!

Are you a Reach To Teach teacher with an event you would like to list here?
Contact Reach To Teach and we'll put it in the next issue!
Seafood is always an interesting option for dining, and Taiwan has no shortage there. Recently, fifteen Reach to Teachers braved the rough seas and went shrimping for the first annual Reach to Teach Shrimping Contest. Okay, so maybe it wasn’t an ocean, but more like a pool, inside a building, with an adjoining restaurant.
For those who haven’t been shrimping in Taiwan before, it’s a great time. You go to this large building with enormous pools inside. They are filled with water and shrimp. You are then handed a fishing rod and pole and sit down by the water’s edge for a couple hours and try to catch the shrimp. Whatever you catch, you then barbarically rip off their claws, skewer them, and grill them on a nearby barbeque. Thus you catch your dinner!
The event lasted about two hours with teachers hailing from all over the city. To enter the contest was NT$100. The rules were simple: whoever caught the most shrimp in two hours took home the pot. The catching was slow, especially for us as we were not the notorious veterans that we made ourselves out to be, but in the end, Skye Yčas took home the gold with six prawns and NT$1000.
Dinner and drinks followed the contest and a great time was had by all. We hope to see you at our next Shrimping Contest and maybe you will take home the top prize then!
Fresh air, stunning views and as always dazzling company!
